Need-Based Scholarships
Class of 1998 Fund
The Class of 1998 Fund supports student reporters and editors in good standing on The Michigan Daily on a need-basis. Preference is given to students with a demonstrated interest in a career in journalism or mass communications.
Chris Parks Michigan Daily Journalism Award
The Chris Parks Michigan Daily Journalism Award Fund supports a member of The Michigan Daily editorial staff with a demonstrated financial need and who represents the outstanding journalistic characteristics exemplified by Chris Parks – a sharp eye for a story combined with tremendous personal integrity and a sense of humor. This fund was established in 2004 in memory of Christopher Parks, an editorial staff member of The Michigan Daily and Editor in 1973-74.
Hermanoff Scholarship
A need-based scholarship established by former Michigan Daily business manager, Michael Hermanoff, ’62 and his wife, Sandra in support of a Michigan Daily edit or business staff member in senior standing.
Petersen-Fineberg Scholarship
This fund supports scholarships for students who have performed meritoriously during the academic year and demonstrate financial need. The projected earnings of the fund determine the amount of the distributions. The fund was established in honor of Carl Petersen and Mel Fineberg, Managing Editor and Sports Editor respectively of The Michigan Daily in 1939-40, who were killed in World War II. The fund was initiated by members of their families, their colleagues and others interested in recognizing the high quality of work at The Michigan Daily.
Wendy Owen Memorial Award
This fund provides support to a Michigan Daily editorial staff member who is a junior, sophomore, or freshman and whose contributions to the University community through the Daily have been soundly constructive. Students with financial need receive preference. This fund was established in 1952 in memory of Wendy Owen, a Daily staff member from 1949 to 1951.
Student Publications Need-Based Scholarship
Provides support for students in need who are affiliated with The Michigan Daily, Michiganensian and The Gargoyle
The Michigan Daily Honors Scholarship Fund (Merit and Need-based)
The Michigan Daily Honors Scholarship Fund, created by Sara Fitzgerald, '73 who was the Daily's first female editor-in-chief, provides support to any Michigan Daily writer, who also participates in the College for Literature, Science and the Arts' Honors Program.
